FOUNDER

Brittany A. Smith, Founder and CEO of Turning Dreams Into Goals is not far removed from the scholarship application process. As a 2013 college graduate, she has 5 years of experience applying to scholarships for her own educational expenses at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and The London School of Economics and Political Science.

“She Was Able To Raise

$90,000.”

Brittany previously worked for The Obama Administration where she served as a White House Intern in the Office of Communications. There, she fact-checked speeches to be delivered by the President and First Lady, completed background research for presidential events and correspondences, and collaborated with other interns – preparing transcripts and news clips of mass media stories.

Brittany has served as a field organizer for the Political Action Committee of Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley and the Coordinated Campaign for the Iowa Democratic Party in Marion, Iowa. Brittany also interned at West Wing Writers, where she researched and drafted speeches and Op-Eds for politicians, political candidates, ambassadors and high ranking officials. She also produced briefing materials for events on issues such as food sustainability, public education, public-private partnerships and legislation.

Brittany’s work experience also includes supporting the Vice President of Quicken Loans on his workforce development initiatives in the City of Detroit, and supporting the mobile online advertising portfolio at Google.

Brittany’s inspiration for Turning Dreams Into Goals is motivated by her experience as a research assistant to Donna Murch (Rutgers University) and Elizabeth Hinton (Yale University); a student of Frieda Ekotto (University of Michigan), Matthew Countryman (University of Michigan), Heather Thompson (University of Michigan), Larry Rowley (University of Michigan) and Angela Dillard (University of Michigan). These scholars inspired her to study and be a student of the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements as a lifelong learner, social impact entrepreneur, and lawyer.

Brittany is a graduate from Boston College Law School where she spent her last semester as Universal Music Group’s first “Semester-In-Practice” extern - working full time in Legal & Business Affairs for the General Counsel of Universal Music Group and Interim President of Def Jam. While in law school, Brittany also worked in the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Clinic, the Community Enterprise Clinic, and the Prosecution Clinic as a 3:03 student attorney in the Middlesex County District Court. Brittany most recently worked in Legal & Business Affairs in Animation (still committed to kids & families) for a major studio.

Brittany now works to help students and families turn their dreams into goals full-time:)
